Sarah Zabel retired from the U.S. Air Force in 2018 as a major general. She works from her home in Bayview, Idaho.

The second of four children, all girls, Sarah was born in Los Angeles, California, in 1965. She moved with her family first to Arizona and then to Texas, where they settled in a small town near San Antonio. In 1983, Sarah entered the cadet class of 1987 at the U.S. Air Force Academy. She graduated with a degree in computer science in 1987 and was commissioned a second lieutenant.
